AT THE WALTER BAKER CHOCOLATE FACTORY 2016
Evil Icons, was inspired by the August 2013 front cover of Rolling Stone magazine which featured the flattering facebook profile picture of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. My view of the cover was essentially the same as that of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino,s, who, in an open letter published in the Boston Globe stated, the magazine "rewarded "a terrorist with celebrity treatment." It was "ill-conceived, at best," and re-affirmed the "terrible message that destruction gains fame for killers and their causes."

But it wasn't just Rolling Stone magazine that awarded Tsarnaev with undue fame, it was all the media that sensationalized the bombings and in the process made Tsarnaev into an icon. To point this out, I used the marathon bomber's Facebook picture as well as the Rolling Stone magazine cover as the subject for a series of oversized US postage stamps. The Dzhokhar Tsarnaev stamps were the first in the Evil Icons series.

By some estimates, The Chairman, thanks to his Cultural Revolution, is said to be responsible for the deaths of up to 70 million people through starvation, prison labour, and executions. If these figures are accurate, they dwarf those of Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler combined.
